About the Neighborhood
This exclusive neighborhood is located north of the Arizona Canal and south of Camelback Road, encompassing the areas between 44th Street and Scottsdale Road. While most of the neighborhood is located within Phoenix, the section east of 64th Street is considered part of Scottsdale.
Situated in the northeastern portion of Phoenix, Arcadia offers breathtaking scenery, green spaces, gorgeous homes, and vibrant entertainment. There are many trendy establishments in and around the neighborhood, including indie boutiques, specialty coffee shops, and microbreweries. It has a laid-back and sophisticated quality that many buyers will truly appreciate.
History
One of the first residential developments in the area dates back to 1915 and was called Citrus Homes. The original Arcadia development was built to the north and northeast of Citrus Homes in 1919. The area was bordered by Rockridge Road to the north, Scottsdale Road towards the east, 44th Street to the west, and Lafayette Boulevard to the south.
However, the project was refinanced and replatted as several subdivisions by different developers starting from the mid-1920s to 1931:
- Glencoe Highlands
- Arcadia Estates
- Arcadia Replatted
- Hacienda Allanada
- Alta Hacienda
These subdivisions were still collectively promoted to affluent buyers as Arcadia, which offered a more rural atmosphere than other areas of Phoenix. The main draw was the spacious lot sizes, which ranged from four to 10 acres. The neighborhood retained its agricultural character with continued investment into the citrus groves in the area.
Home construction continued well into the late 1950s through the early 1960s. Many of the older homes were renovated during this time. Home values continued to climb and the remaining parcels in the neighborhood subsequently developed with quality homes. Today, Arcadia continues to be a sought-after neighborhood for its location and natural beauty.
